The Parenting Stigma
There’s a huge stigma that parenting, especially good parenting- requires more than most can handle. Let’s face it- as a parent, there’s always a million things running in through your head, from tonight’s dinner to the friends that your child is making. Oh yeah, and that play date you set up with your little one’s new friend from daycare on Saturday. Or wait, was that for Sunday?
Although the world in your head may be scattered all over the place, it’s important to look around and ground yourself. Being a parent has its challenges- the highs are high, but the low, oh, they can be brutal.
Wouldn’t parenting be so much easier if it came with a beginner’s manual? I’d bet so, but it’s up to us to create that manual as we go through this wondrous journey. Yes- you will make mistakes along the way, yes- a lot of it will be trial and error, but it doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing a great job. No one can be a perfect parent, but you can be a real parent. At the end of the day, if your little munchkin is happy and loved, I think you’re doing a pretty good job. So, buckle up and enjoy this lifelong adventure of teaching, learning, and everything in between.
